Sandgrub is a vineyard known for wines of great fruit intensity and juicy character. These old vines (average over 40 years) are rooted in sandy loess and loam with some quartz littered throughout. Vinification was entirely in stainless steel with seven months’ maturation on lees.

Eva Fricke is the young superstar of the Rheingau. One of Eva’s claims to fame is the gentrification of the great vineyards of the western Rheingau, where the river
snakes north, carving out the steep, rocky sites rising around the town of Lorch. Far from the ‘Paris end’ of the Rheingau, this area was previously considered problematic due to its sheer, stony slopes and cool, shady aspect. This visionary grower identified something quite different: a unique terroir where the rocky vineyards are strewn with slate, quartzite and old vines to work with. Today, thanks largely to the showstopping quality of Eva’s wines, the vineyards around Lorch are hot property once more.
